The main objective of the Hub was to centralise access to all its available online tools, providing clear and relevant information to a wider audience, in a much more accessible way.

Cloud Migration Digital Platform

Amadeus IT

In essence, this project to migrate sixty-six airline applications to the cloud, was planned over a five year period.

As each airline application migration would require the same processes to migrate, my role required me to build a developer platform to document these processes to maximise efficiency.

Each process would require a great of discovery, therefore indepth plan, develop and write operational procedures were created with developers and Product Owners.

I had chosen Atlassian Confluence for the Migration documentation platform as it was widely used by the company. Developers carrying out the migration were able to easily access the relevant processes to be followed.

Once the platform was live I needed to manage updates/revisions for documentation through HTML and macros.

EiB Analytical Documentation Platform

At EiB Ltd, I was tasked with setting up a Help tool for their flagship ‘EiB Analytics’ product. The tool needed to make the user experience easier by providing help for all functionality

My first task was to meet consultants and gather content about the application, whilst rapidly familiarising myself with the product. It was extremely complex, but I was able to apply my understanding of it.

The help tool content was consumed through a number of APIs from an MS SQL SERVER datastore. The help content for each specific user journey would then be available on the specific page.

Corporate INSITE Intranet Platform

At EUIPO, for almost 10 years, I built and maintained the Office’s Intranet Portal Insite.

When I started at the Office, the Intranet that was in production was not customisable at all. I personally introduced Joomla technology and created the tool. The Intranet tool has now evolved and provides assistance on so many levels. On top of that, it remains Joomla technology. Without exception, most of the functionality that Insite uses was put in place by myself. To name some areas of functionality that I built into the portal were:

Insite Communication Requests

Key Communication users from each department were able to make requests to the Communications Service ie Multimedia, News publication etc. To manage this process I implemented a tool which set up workflows to filter the requests for the correct roles. This tool became a success, and the monthly reports containing all Communication requests was a key deliverable for the Service.

Insite Survey/Questionnaires

An example of an Insite workflow which I built into the system was a Request Form to manage requests to the Communications Service from all the departments/services within the Office. This can be anything from asking for corporate ties, brochures to organising a Communications campaign for the visit of European Commissioner, Michael Barnier.

Insite ‘The Box’ Multimedia

I personally researched, built and launched a ‘YouTube’ like video sharing platform using Joomla and MS Silverlight. This was a very popular tool on Insite, delivering communication through multimedia very successfully.

Events Calendar

One of the requirements from Internal/External Communications was to build an Events Calendar, to promote the internal and external events and meetings. The Office felt a need to make available details for all corporate events that are attended by the EU Government Office. The information that appeared on the Calendar was exported byt APIs to the Digital Screens which were placed round the Office.

EUIPO Corporate Web Portal ‘Google Analytics’

Until 2008, the only analytics that the OHIM website www.oami.europa.eu was connected to was an in-house Business Objects report provided by the IT department.

There were major problems with this package's ability to produce statistics for the website. Reports had to be handled through an outdated internal request tool, also provided by IT, and the response could take up to a week to be delivered.

I took the initiative to remedy this, and, after researching the paid-for and “free” tools available, suggested Google Analytics. Following numerous meetings, it became apparent that there was internal opposition from IT and also data protection issues, because of the way in which tracking information may be used.

However, much of the opposition was based on a misconception that the European Commission had “banned” the use of Google Analytics. Following a positive opinion from our Data Protection Officer and the Legal Service, we put a disclaimer on the website to inform users that information was being gathered about their visits, and connected the site to Google Analytics.

A week later, the results were presented in a Communication Service team meeting. The data was well-received, and considering the OHIM website receives on average 100K visits per day and contains around 30,000 pages, it is proving an invaluable asset our marketing strategy.

We continued to create custom reports under this account, and also deliver existing reports to our Head of Service.

We also set up Google Analytics accounts for all the minisites that were launched. Most of the sites related to events held under the OHIM umbrella, providing further data for marketing purposes.

Insite - Digital Screens in the Office

One of my suggestions at a Communications Service meeting was to handle communication through Digital Screens within the office. I implemented this and then managed the Digital Signage Project in the office, which consists of around 18 x 60" screens publishing news and information to ALL staff. This project was hugely successful.

TM Officials Forum

The Trade Mark Officials Forum platform was built to provide collaboration for Trade Mark officials.

Once the platform was launched, I set up a key user group to discuss future improvements.

The platform was built in Joomla CMS with a MySQL database. It was later migrated to Drupal CMS due to a change of policy with the EU Agency.

The EUIPO Business Continuity Protocol platform was built to provide Business Continuity for the EU Agency.

As this platform needed to be hosted outside the Office's network, I needed to organise third party hosting.

The purpose of the site was to provide continuity if the Office's online tools were taken offline for some reason. ie fire in the building etc.

The platform was built in Drupal CMS with a MySQL database.

There were around 300 key users who contributed to the platform.

As a contractor, my role tasked me to provide web designer and developer solutions for the XL Airways e-commerce platform.

My daily backlog would consist of many things ie resolving a flight booking issue though the database, or run a marketing campaign through SEO.

Most days, I would create promotional web banners for the homepage using reusable assets.

The platform was built on C#.NET with a MS SQL Server database.

Red Hot Chilli were a dynamic digital agency, and I was able to learn many skills building the Intranet for the agency.
